General Rhinoplasty WI | Nose Job WI InformationRhinoplasty WI Dr. Parfitt speaks about Rhinoplasty in WI

Each year, over half a million people who are interested in improving the appearance of their noses consult with facial plastic surgeons. Some are unhappy with the noses they inherited, and some with the effect that aging has had on their nose. For others, an injury to the nose may have caused some distortion, or the goal may be to improve breathing. But whatever the reason, one thing is clear: nothing has a bigger impact on how a person looks than the shape and size of the nose. Because the nose is the most central and defining characteristic of the face, even a minor alteration can greatly improve one's overall appearance.

If you are wondering how nose surgery, or rhinoplasty (nose job), can improve your appearance or the appearance of someone you know, then you’ll be interested in knowing how this procedure is performed and what you can be expect as a result from having it done. This information page, brought to you courtesy of Top Rhinoplasty Surgeon Dr. Richard C. Parfitt, can address many of your questions and concerns.

Good rapport between patient and surgeon is important in achieving successful results in facial cosmetic surgery. Trust develops in the consulting stages prior to surgery. This trust is based on realistic expectations and exacting medical proficiency. If you have specific questions or specific needs, please ask Dr. Parfitt, as he should be able to answer them and accommodate your needs.

Is Having a Rhinoplasty in WI For You?

Rhinoplasty WI Nose Job WI- Is it for you?As with any elective surgical procedure, realistic expectations and good health are prerequisites. Understanding some of the details of nose surgery is also critical. Since there is no specific size and shape that is ideal in rhinoplasty (nose job), the goal is to improve the nose aesthetically, making it harmonize and balance better with the proportions of other facial features.

Ethnic background, skin type, and age are important factors to be taken into consideration when discussing rhinoplasty (nose job) options with Dr. Parfitt prior to surgery. The nose matures and reaches full growth usually around age fifteen or sixteen.  Prior to this age, this surgery is rarely done.  Exceptions are cases where breathing is significantly impaired.

Making the Decision

Before deciding on rhinoplasty (nose job), you might ask Dr. Parfitt if any additional surgery might be recommended to enhance the balance and overall appearance of your face. Many patients benefit by having chin augmentation at the same time as their rhinoplasty, creating a better balance of features.

Whether the surgery is desired for cosmetic or functional reasons, your choice of a certified and experienced facial cosmetic surgeon is of paramount importance. Dr Parfitt is trained in both facial cosmetic surgery as well as ear, nose, and throat surgery, which provides you, the patient, with the highest level of expertise and training. He will examine the structures of your nose, both internally and externally, to determine what you can realistically expect from rhinoplasty. Dr. Parfitt will also discuss factors that can influence the results of the surgery, such as skin type, degree of deformity, ethnic background, the function of nasal structures, and age.

You can expect a thorough explanation of Dr. Parfitt’s expectations and the risks involved with the surgery. Dr. Parfitt also performs computer imaging on all patients considering rhinoplasty (nose job) and/or chin implant surgery.  This allows better communication of what the patient desires and of what the doctor intends as a goal.  Both patient and doctor must be in agreement with the intended visual goal before the rhinoplasty is performed. Following a joint decision to proceed with rhinoplasty (nose job), Dr. Parfitt will then take a full set of photographs and discuss more details of how the surgery is accomplished. He will explain how the internal nasal structures, including cartilage and bone, can be sculpted to reshape the nose and may also specify how reshaping the chin, for example, could improve the overall results.

After conducting a medical history, Dr. Parfitt will offer information regarding details of the surgical facility, the type of anesthesia to be used, and the costs for the procedure(s).

Rhinoplasty WI | Nose Job WI Details

Nasal Surgery WI Details of Rhinoplasty WI Nose Job WIThe translation of the word “ rhinoplasty” is, literally, “shaping the nose”. First, the nose is completely numbed up much like your teeth are numbed when you see the dentist.  Incisions are made, mostly just inside the nose, where they are invisible, and the skin of the nose is lifted from the bone and cartilage that support the overlying skin. In some cases, an incision is made in the area of skin between the two nostrils at the base of the nose. Next, varying amounts of cartilage and bone are removed and/or rearranged to provide a new shape for the support structures. For example, when the tip of the nose is too big, Dr. Parfitt can remove some of the cartilage in this area to reduce its size. The angle of the tip of the nose in relation to the upper lip can be altered as well to achieve a more youthful look or to correct a downward distortion of the tip.

The overlying skin is then re-draped over the reshaped frame and all incisions are closed. A splint is applied to the outside of the nose to retain the new shape while the nose begins to heal.  Dissolvable, soft material may be used inside the nose to help mold the tip of the nose from the inside as well. Risk factors in rhinoplasty (nose job) are generally minor, and Dr. Parfitt will discuss these prior to surgery.

Rhinoplasty Recovery

Immediately following surgery, a small plastic splint will be applied to your nose to protect it and to keep the structure stable for at least six to eight days. Some light absorbent packing is placed inside the nose during surgery; it is removed the same day, before you leave the recovery suite. Your face may feel puffy, especially the first day after surgery. Pain medication is rarely required but will be provided. Dr. Parfitt advises that you avoid blowing your nose for seven days after surgery. You may experience bruising and minor swelling in the eye area for the first few days following surgery. Cold compresses (we use frozen peas in a soft plastic “snack bag”), will reduce swelling, bruising, and discomfort. Absorbable sutures are usually used and therefore do not have to be removed. The splint is usually removed seven or eight days after surgery.

It is crucial that you follow Dr. Parfitt’s written and verbal directions, especially his instructions to keep your head elevated for a certain period of time following surgery. Some activities should be avoided in the weeks after the procedure. Straining exertion, sun exposure, and activities that risk injury to the nose must be avoided. If you wear glasses, special care must be taken to ensure that the glasses do not rest on the bridge of the nose. Tape can be applied in such a way that permits wearing glasses without placing undue pressure on the area where surgery was performed.

Rhinoplasty | Nose Job makes it possible to improve the appearance of a nose that may undermine your self-confidence and self-esteem. By changing how your nose looks, cosmetic surgery can help improve how you feel about yourself.

Her rhinoplasty (nose job) was done by facial plastic surgeon Richard Parfitt from Middleton, Wisconsin and Madison, Wisconsin.
Jackies nose is unusually wide. It detracts from her beautiful eyes and doesn't blend in with her other facial features well. By narrowing the boney and cartilage structures that make up the underlying foundation of the nose, she now has facial features that look more balanced, softer, more feminine and beautiful. Her rhinoplasty (nose job) was done by facial plastic surgeon Richard Parfitt from Middleton, Wisconsin and Madison, Wisconsin.
On frontal view, Shaina had primarily a wide tip that detracted from her beautiful eyes and other beautiful facial features. By narrowing the tip, her nose now blends in more with her features, allowing her eyes to appear even more beautiful. Her rhinoplasty (nose job) was done by facial plastic surgeon Richard Parfitt from Middleton, Wisconsin and Madison, Wisconsin.
Jackie had a quite large and especially wide nose. By making strategic surgical cuts in the bones of the nasal pyramid, the nose was signifcantly narrowed. The lower aspect of the nose was then narrowed to blend into the rest and look natural. Her rhinoplasty (nose job) was done by facial plastic surgeon Richard Parfitt from Middleton, Wisconsin and Madison, Wisconsin.
Carol had a rhinoplasty, eyelid surgery and a facelift done at the same time. this had the effect of not only rejuvinating her face, but making it softer and more feminine as well. Having a smaller nose has the effect of making the eyes look larger and mroe attractive. Her rhinoplasty was done by facial plastics surgeon, Richard Parfitt fromd Madison, Wisconsin and Middleton, Wisconsin.
Rochelle had a relatively large nose and a receding chin, which made the nose look even larger. A large nose will also make a receding chin look even more recessed. By reducing the projection of the nose and increasing the projection of the chin, there is now an aesthetic balance to the profile. Her rhinoplasty (nose job) was done by facial plastics surgeon, Richard Parfitt fromd Madison, Wisconsin and Middleton, Wisconsin.
Melinda's nose was primarily a problem from the side view, but the tip of the nose was somewhat wide from the front view. She wanted narrowing, but "not too much". There is a nicer line from the top of the nose to the tip. Her rhinoplasty (nose job) was done by facial plastics surgeon, Richard Parfitt fromd Madison, Wisconsin and Middleton, Wisconsin.
Melinda never liked her profile and wanted the "hump" taken away. That's what we did. I also augmented her chin a little to give better balance to the profile elements. Her rhinoplasty was done by Madison, Wisconsin facial plastic surgeon, Richard Parfitt who's clinic is in Middleton, Wisconsin.
This oblique view of Melinda's nose demonstrates nicely the beautiful balance brought about by reducing the size of the nose and augmenting the chin. Notice how the lower lip is positioned in a better plane as well, resulting from the chin augmentation. Her rhinoplasty was done by Madison, Wisconsin facial plastic surgeon, Richard Parfitt who has clinics in Appleton and Middleton, Wisconsin.
Dan had a rounded front edge of his nose on profile. a male face looks more "chiseled" and masculine with a straighter line along the front of the nose. Dan had done a number of things to improve his appearance and the rhinoplasty added just the right touch to complement the other improvements. His rhinoplasty was done by Madison, Wisconsin facial plastic surgeon, Richard Parfitt who has clinics in Appleton, Wisconsin and Middleton, Wisconsin.
Soan didn't like the width of her nose, and wanted a more refined and feminine nose, but wanted to maintain her ethnic features. Narrowing was accomplished by narrowing the base as well as the upper boney pyramid of the nose. She's now ready to be a model. Her rhinoplasty (nose job) was done by Madison, Wisconsin facial plastic surgeon, Richard Parfitt who has clinics in Appleton, Wisconsin and Middleton, Wisconsin.
Mary had a wide nose which detracted somewhat from her other very beautiful and feminine features. By narrowing both the base and upper nose, the nose now "fits" her face better and complements her other beautifully balanced features. Ethnic rhinoplasty presents challanges, since the undesirable features are changed while maintaining the ethnicity of the nose. A common mistake among rhinoplasty surgeons is to do their rhinoplasty the same way each time. I approach every nose differently, depending on the desired result, which is not always the same. This patient had a wide nose that was narrowed significantly. She is from the Appleton, Wisconsin area. Her rhinoplasty (nose job) was done by facial plastic surgeon Dr. Richard Parfitt, from Madison, Wisconsin and Middleton, Wisconsin.
Mary had a noticable "hump", with a less-than-ideal tip angle (the tip would look better turned up slightly). After making these adjustments, the nose has more esthetic proportions and angles and looks more feminine. Mary is from the Appleton, Wisconsin area. Her rhinoplasty (nose job) was done by facialplastic surgeon Richard Parfitt, MD from Madison, Wisconsin and Middleton, Wisconsin.
An angled view of Marys nose demonstrates how getting the profile and front view right, guarantees that all angles between will look good as well. Mary is from the Appleton, Wisconsin area. Her rhinoplasty (nose job) was done by facialplastic surgeon Richard Parfitt, MD from Madison, Wisconsin and Middleton, Wisconsin.
Another oblique or angled view of Mary's nose demonstrates how shortening the base (the distance from the tip, along the lower edge of the nose to the face) makes the nose look more attractive and proportionate. Mary is from the Appleton, Wisconsin area. Her rhinoplasty (nose job) was done by facialplastic surgeon Richard Parfitt, MD from Madison, Wisconsin and Middleton, Wisconsin.
Gina had a kinda' rounded, amorphous tip and some genetic fat under her chin that made her face look "chubby". By refining her tip and profile by giving the nose a straighter liine from tip to forehead, her features became more attractive and elegant. Gina is from the Madison, Wisconsin area. Her rhinoplasty (nose job) was done by facialplastic surgeon Richard Parfitt, MD from Madison, Wisconsin and Middleton, Wisconsin.

Her rhinoplasty (nose job) was done by facialplastic surgeon Richard Parfitt, MD from Madison, Wisconsin and Middleton, Wisconsin.
Rebecca had a slight hump and over-projected tip that had a less-than-ideal rotation angle. Applying the combination of smoothing out the hump, setting the tip back slightly and rotating the tip up slightly, she now has an attractive nose that looks natural and blends in nicely with her other facial features. Rebecca is from the Madison, Wisconsin area. Her rhinoplasty (nose job) was done by facialplastic surgeon Richard Parfitt, MD from Madison, Wisconsin and Middleton, Wisconsin.
Holly had a nose that over-projected (stuck out too far), and therefore didn't blend into her other facial features very well. by reducing the projection, her nose now "fits" her face and looks natural and attractive. Karen is from the Milwaukee, Wisconsin area. Her rhinoplasty (nose job) was done by facialplastic surgeon Richard Parfitt, MD from Madison, Wisconsin and Middleton, Wisconsin.
Megan has a great profile -- defined chin, nice lips -- but, of course, there's "the hump" on her nose that upsets the beautiful lines of those features. By removing this surgically with a rhinoplasty, she now has it all going for her and is much more visually balanced and attractive. Her rhinoplasty (nose job) surgery was done by facial plastic surgeon Richard Parfitt from Madison, Wisconsin at his surgery clinic in Middleton, Wisconsin.

Another View of Kara's nose from the side.
Kara came to Dr. Parfitt looking to soften the sharpness of her nose.
pt's nose was too large and masculine for her features. Following surgery, the patient had a beautiful, femine arch and side profile.
Tara's nose did not fit her other features. By removing the bump and narrowing her nostrils, her results captured a more symmetrical, proportionate look from both front and side profiles.
pt's small hump altered her side profile, also, her front view protrayed assymetry between both nostrils creating a misproportionate image compared to the other petite facial features characteristic of this patient.
